Please join your neighbours on Saturday, June 15 and help us to control the rapid spread of Phragmites. This invasive reed is negatively impacting the beach ecosystem and taking over many sections of the beach, particularly at the North end. To prevent spreading, we need to keep digging them out every year. Left untreated, the Phragmites will overtake the shoreline and present a safety risk to our community. Last year, over 15 people helped dig and fill over 40 brown bags of Phragmites. The good news is where we focused on the dig, very little growth came back!
Volunteers are invited to meet at 8:30 am on the beach, 3rd beach entrance from Concession 11 near the rubber mat. Please bring a set of work gloves and shovels if you have them and friends and family are welcome!
If you cannot attend the Dig, please feel free to tackle a patch in the beach area that you use. Every little bit helps to ward off this highly invasive and destructive plant.
For more information, please see the Phragmites section.
