CPOA Volunteer Opportunities
We Need Volunteers!
Phragmites control, beach cleanup, short-term rental challenges, beach use concerns–these issues have been raised by you, our community. We are working on solutions, but we need your help.
Why Volunteer?
This is your beach. We recognize that many of you come to relax and get away from your regular commitments, but if everyone helps, even an hour here or there, we can maintain the peace and enjoyment for you and your family.
We have many opportunities…
- Is there an event planner in you? We need help organizing our 100th Anniversary and other social events to bring the members of the community together and to have fun. We need ideas and we need people to plan and implement!
- Membership support. Did you know that not all property owners are members? We are looking for a few ‘door knockers’ to help spread the word with their neighbours. A few minutes on a weekend is all it takes! We can give you talking points. The more members we have, the more we can do!
- Are communications your thing? We could use two people to help us develop and implement our communications to make sure everyone is kept in the know. Activities will range from newsletter articles and eblasts to helping with our social media activity. Contact communication@cpoa.caif you are interested.
- Community Keepers. We are looking for one or more individuals who can help us develop a collaborative way to support each other about our beach rules, poison ivy control, and other opportunities for improvement in our collective use of the beach etc.
- Eco-Stewards. Join the No Trace Left Behind campaign to help protect our pristine beach environment. No Trace Left Behind means leave it as you found it. That means bringing home all your garbage–including cigarette butts because they are, after all, garbage–and picking up any other rubbish you see nearby.
Why not become an eco-steward of Cawaja Beach? There are many ways you can be involved, pick one or pick all!
- Join the CPOA environment committee to strategize on ways we can help save our beach from growing levels of garbage and toxicity. Email secretary@cpoa.ca to express your interest.
- Support the annual Community Beach Cleanup on May 7th by joining your neighbours to rake and remove debris, trim pathways, and get the beach ready for the summer season.
- Bring a garbage bag when you walk the beach and pathways so you can pick up any garbage or debris you see along the way. Be sure to dispose of it responsibly! Many items are washed in from other places; picking up anything you see helps us all.
